Client Testimonial: Star One Credit Union

How the Bureau of Internet Accessibility helped Star One Credit Union achieve ADA compliance

Star One is a national credit union and savings institution headquartered in Sunnyvale, California and is ranked 17th in total assets among nearly 5,700 credit unions nationally. The organization maintains physical branches in and around Silicon Valley and provides online banking services (including mobile, web and telephonic account management) to approximately 111,000 individual clients.

Challenge and solution

Star One Credit Union was aware that some of its members use screen readers, alternate keyboards, and other assistive technologies to access online banking services. To support those members, the credit union built fairly-accessible portals, but was eventually named in a class action lawsuit requiring them to find a third-party website accessibility partner to help them fully adhere to WCAG 2.1.

In their own words

" Even though our website was generally ADA-accessible, and no members had complained about accessibility problems, the threat of a lawsuit alerted us to look more closely. Indeed, having an audit done by a third party (the BoIA) was very helpful in that it pointed out several areas where fine tuning was needed for comprehensive accessibility compliance.
