WCAG 2.1 - SC 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks

Many websites contain blocks of content that are present on all or most pages. While a sighted visitor can simply direct their attention to the proper part of the page, someone using keyboard navigation or a screen reader must work their way through all this repeated content. A link should be available to skip past it.

Official Requirements:

2.4.1 Bypass Blocks: A mechanism is available to bypass blocks of content that are repeated on multiple Web pages.

How to fix:

  • Provide a link at the beginning of the page to skip to the main page content.
  • Provide a set of links at the beginning of the page to each major section of the page.
  • Provide a link at the start of each section of repeated content to the end of the section.
