Tennessee Court Informative Disability Video Released

The Tennessee Supreme Court’s Access to Justice Commission has recently developed and dispersed an important training video for attorneys and legal agencies to become more educated on interactions with persons who have disabilities.

The Justice Commission’s main goal for the video is to reduce barriers that persons with disabilities face when filing cases. The legal department hopes that the video’s information will support increases in pro bono work, and ultimately raise awareness on the importance these disability cases presents.

Martha M. Lafferty, Managing Attorney at the Disability Law & Advocacy Center of Tennessee, was quoted as saying, “Attorneys will better understand how to provide services to persons with disabilities after watching the video, That increased understanding will, in turn, lead attorneys to work with their own clients, opposing counsel, and courts to ensure that disabilities are appropriately accommodated during the entire justice process”.

As persons with disabilities will be better accommodated in Tennessee’s legal services than ever before, it’s expected that there will be an increase in the number of ADA cases being filed in the state. In doing so, communities and businesses will need to focus on creating an accessible environment in lieu of a lawsuit.
