Bahamian Accessibility to Reach Parliament

Loretta Butler-Turner, Long Island Member of Parliament (MP), has appealed to the Bahamian Parliament to pass the Equal Opportunities Disabilities Bill (EODB). The EODP is very similar to the UN’s Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as it pertains to a societal change for the Bahamian people. Loretta is working in conjunction with the Bahamas Disabilities Rights and Commission council in order to increase awareness on how important this bill would be to those with disabilities in their country.

Mrs. Butler-Turner was quoted as saying, “The legislation is ready to go. Persons with disabilities have waited too long for such legislation”. With the contributions from the Council, and several other advocacy groups, the message is being delivered to Parliament that this Bill is a necessity to better themselves.

The Parliament has stated that Mrs. Butler-Turner’s suggestions have been noted and will be taken into consideration when voting takes place.
